Martus Products and Services

Martus software uses a connection to a designated server to allow data to be uploaded and downloaded. Portions of bulletins that authoring users designate as public can be published to the Martus Search Engine. The Martus Server software allows the backing up and publishing of bulletins to occur whenever a Martus software user connects to the Internet. The server software also allows operators of Martus Servers the option to offer their services as hosts for the backing up of other users' data.

* Note that to run Martus software (e.g., authoring bulletins), users do NOT need to run their own Martus Servers – they can instead elect to have their data backed up by a Martus Server host. See the side panel for the growing list of Martus Server hosts to choose from.

Responsible operation of Martus Servers is essential to meeting the needs of the NGO community. Benetech has developed best practices for operating a Martus Server as well as a voluntary compliance program to help grassroots user groups evaluate potential server hosts.
