The demonstration that you have just seen shows that Martus is based on widely-used and well-understood concepts. Further, the basic technologies required for Martus are currently available in the marketplace. The development requirements for Martus do not involve the creation of new core technology.
Instead of re-inventing the wheel, the focus of the Martus development effort concentrates on adapting existing technology and bringing it together into a single application — one that will be easily embraced and widely used in the human rights field.
Martus will be:
- Simple to install, from CD or Web
- Easy to use, based on the well-known email application model
- Encrypted and secure, through little or no effort on the part of the user
- Replicated redundantly, guaranteeing easy bulletin restoration and no data loss
- Highly searchable, for study and advocacy
